Who Run This Motha? Apparently Beyoncé?!

Situation: It’s here! The 2011 moment we have been dreading – we are on the brink of Beyonce season! *sobs* (There’s really not much left to say, except…)

At least the artwork for the single is dope!

She Says:

I knew it was coming. I felt it in my bones – Beyonce was coming back and there wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it. Let me get this out of the way before all of the Beyonce stans label me a ‘hater’ because I criticize their beloved: Beyonce is beautiful, talented, skinny, light skinned, rich, married, and accomplished. I never deny these things about her – EVER!

And now that we’ve covered that, I’m free to go in! Beyonce’s new single, Girls, dropped this week and you would have thought Jesus had come back to earth to save us from the rapture. The song is mediocre at best, save for the beat and that isn’t even original to this track. Just like all of Beyonce’s recent songs, I cannot say that I don’t like it because I am sure after the ridiculous amount of airplay both the video and song will receive, I will be forced to. With all Beyonce songs you have no choice but to like them after they’ve been drilled into your head.

In my opinion, it seems that Beyonce is getting progressively lazy in her approach to song choices and lyrical content. She has reached a level where she can put out mediocre music and still hit platinum status because of her stans. However, this song, in terms of quality, would be better suited for Ciara or Keri Hilson; yet if either of them had released it, this single would have quickly been labeled as trash! I’m just saying…let’s be real here; it’s disheartening because Beyonce has the ability to make a classic album with lyrical content and vocals worth commenting on, but instead she releases this crap.

Lastly, it just always turns me off that a Beyonce single mysteriously drops when her “sister” Kelly is back on the scene. It just seems a little odd to me that Queen Bey cannot allow anyone to have a flourishing career—not even her former group mate/ sister/ friend. If we were to compare the songs, there is no competition -- Motivation is the better.

A

P.S – I listened to Girls on repeat while I wrote this, and by the last note I’d caught myself nodding my head! The vicious attack of Beyonce season has begun…

He Says:
The AUDACITY of this jawn! Who does she think she is? Better yet--does she think we are stupid? Beyonce has once again flooded the urban music market with a piss poor use of her vocal talent. Yes, I did say PISS POOR. This new song “Girls Run the World” is an embarrassment for someone with that much talent. Beyonce can blow. But she has continually put out underwhelming tracks and albums for her cult-like fans. And she must have put up a lot of money; because if I was Major Lazers, there is no way those rudimentary lyrics would ever touch my production.

After driving to work and hearing the trash for the first time, I thought it would be a good idea to test the power of Bey. I went into work and asked four black female co-workers if they knew there was a new Beyonce track out. All of them looked at me in shock—you’d have thought I told them I saw Jesus physically lowering gas prices. One woman even proceeded to tell me the story of how she had previously driven up the east coast to see Beyonce in six different cities! Each woman, within 30 minutes of my initial question, had sent an email saying that “the track was hot” or “Bey is back!” Since I consider myself a smart man, I know the one thing you don’t do is argue with a member of the Holy Temple of Bey. So I decided not to respond with any ignorant comments for my personal safety. I was even told on twitter that my comments about Bey might get me un-followed and/or my car keyed. C’mon people!

So for you ladies and gentle-ladies that worship Beyonce on a regular basis, let me breakdown exactly what she is doing. In basketball, there is something called the “Heat Check”. This is when a shooter thinks they are able to hit any shot on the court. They proceed to shoot a ridiculous and unwarranted shot just because they think everything they throw up will go in the basket. This is exactly what Beyonce has done with this song---and actually what she did with her last album as well. She knows that any and everything she puts out will be flocked to by all of her worshippers. So she throws out a piece of sh*t song, just to check to see how hot she is. Now don’t get me wrong---many major artists do this often, including Michael Jackson with his “Blood on the Dance Floor” disaster (#ripMJ --addition courtesy of A, lol); and Prince deciding to change his name to a dumb ass symbol. But this is the time that people need to stand up and put an end to this. Don’t go around saying how hot this song is, because you damn sure know it isn’t. If you do, we will all have to suffer thru many more summers of Beyonce’s trash for years to come!

Great Post!!! I agree. This song is awful! and Really do girls run the world or grown ass women??? I am just saying. Get with it Bey. This is so elementary. With a few lyric changes this would have been good for Willow Smith honestly.

TEAM MOTIVATION! That is all! :)

lol @ the Willow Smith reference from above! hahaha

Yea I agree she is talented and could do much better material than this song! However it will be a number one hit! *shudders*

Beyonce has everything that is necessary for her to be who she is! She is easily moldable...for that I am appreciative because the bitch is nice to look at when she pussy poppin in her videos. Let's be real it is better than her acting...I'd rather watch her pussy pop for an hour than to watch Dreamgirls or Austin Powers...

The song is trash but I thank her for giving women another song to back it up on my dick on the dance floor. That's they way girls show they run the world!

Kudos Beyonc, You have given my dick reason to rejoice again!

"You’d have thought I told them I saw Jesus physically lowering gas prices" -A. That there made me laugh aloud and spit all of my juice out. Too funny!!! I am noooo stan and barely a fan but I dig the song. I think people who hate it yearn... for the soulful R&B Beyonce. I put a missing persons report out on her a few albums ago. Sadly, she is still MIA. Speaking of MIA, I think this song would have been better had MIA got the track.....Just sayin

After having an in depth convo analyzing this song with my classmates (yea...grad students will do anything to procrastinate from school work lol), I've come to the conclusion that this song is clearly for the gays.

It is crazy that all of a sudden she feels the need to release a new single just when her supposed homegirl Kelly comes out with a hit single. I think Kelly kind of peeps that too tho. Have yall seen the new Essence? There's a segment on celebrity best friends. Both Bey and Kelly are featured...but not as each others friends. Kelly chose Brandy and Bey chose her mom...

I generally like B, but that song just sounds like a bad Baltimore club mix.

I will never be a Beyonce fan in this life or the next, but I do appreciate her beauty and that ever so luscious body of hers. She is definitely candy for the eyes , but I was never impressed with her music; just the videos.

@pauline- if you are going to be accepting of everything she does...then in the end how will she get better?? She will contine to put out bullshit and we will continue to accept it and make her rich. A isn't tearing her down...she is giving critical feedback. At the end of the day, as consumers, we have a right and an obligation to do that. And if you put out bullshit---we gonna call out the bullshit. Especially on this blog. But thanks for the comment and reading tho lol.

Ummm...someone clearly missed the laudatory remarks for Bey in the first paragraph. Reading is fundamental! Crazy a** stan...

I agree that this chick's cult like following is scary/disturbing considering her latest musical offering is TRASH. She coulda kept that Sasha Fierce nonsense to herself, too. I mean, I love Bey, but more as a performer than an actual musician...*ploop*

I can't speak for other (st)fans of Beyonce but personally, I think there's a difference between liking her as an entertainer and public persona, and liking her vocal capability and lyrical content. If we are discussing her most recent song, I will admit that upon first, second and third listen, I was not impressed...and I'm still not. And like A, I feel like the song will eventually grow on me because I will hear it everywhere all the time this summer (not to mention the hot video that I'm sure is about to drop with the latest dance craze). In my opinion, the song is mediocre but I'm sure there are some people out there who may genuinely like it.

However, if we are discussing her image and public persona as an overall entertainer, I think that is something different. I have a small (read: big) girl crush on her. I think she's hot and provides motivation for me to get in the gym. I love her fashion sense and how she looks effortlessly beautiful most times (I said looks, I didn't say was...). I have also seen her in concert 3 times and each time her show was amazing...the singing, the dancing and overall entertainment factor of her shows is that of a true entertainer. While you may not like her past or present songs, you can not deny she knows how to sing and dance the hell out of them. These are the reasons I am a (st)fan.

I think it's interesting A pointed out that she's light skinned. I've never really thought about that before and why that may attribute to her success...and possibly why Kelly can't seem to get her career off the ground. But I think that's a different blog post.

Now that I have read the blog I can comment! "Can the church say AMEN", especially on the point that no matter how much I don't really like her music, I am forced to...I don't play it in my car, but I hear it everywhere else and the stupid... lyrics and hook get caught in my head. It's also sad that, since I always liked Kelly better, Beyonce wont let her shine...there is enough money in that industry for everyone to shine and get paid, if only for a moment...#iamhatingonbey

This song stinks! I am really tired of the girl anthems. I think there are far too many. When she puts this song on the back shelf can we please request that she puts those darn leotards with it? Lol! If I see her in another one I am going to scream!!! I think she has them in every Pantone color available. LMBO!! Extremely talented and has definitely put her firm stamp on the music industry, but this was a huge miss!

I am one of Beyonce's #1 Fans. Seriously, I have been told that I have a girl crush on her. But, this song is underwhelming to say the least. Yet I know that after hearing it on the radio 500 times a day, I will start to like it. Does it just take me a long time to get how hot her songs really are? Or has she made a deal with the devil and can get fans to like just about anything she puts out?

Great Post! I love the crazy stan up there! Did K not criticize the song as well? Take that mess some where else Pauline!!!!

Anyhoo the song dropped on iTunes and the rating is only 2.5 stars! K -- I think the people have spoken! lol

I am personally a fan of Bey, I went to her I am Sasha Fierce concert, and it was the most amazing concert I have ever experienced. I am always impressed with her caliber of dance, singing and stage presence. She is very talented and out does all other present day female artists in terms of having the whole package.

With that said... this song sucks. The Major Lazer Pon the Floor that is sampled, usually gets me amped and ready to hit the dance floor, but not here. The beat and lyrics do not compliment each other.

Although the song is very disappointing, I am still looking forward to see what she did with the music video.

I too am a Bey stan and I must say that this is dissappointing. I am not a sports fan, but K your analogy is spot on. This is pathetic that she thinks her lovers will tolerate this caliber of music.

ONEFABMAMMA -- you are right! Beyonce is not a musician, she is a performer!

I am just go to tell Reader Pauline to look at my 1st paragraph. Thanks for reading! :)

It is always one, I tell ya! lol

Anyhoo...You all make great comments! It just if someone is going to be called the Queen shouldn't she at least have a classic album of material...When is Beyonce going to release her Reasonable Doubt?!?!?!? Time to step up Beyonce...all I am saying!
